Mentoring Program
The AKATeen Rites of Passage Program is designed to cultivate and begin the transformation of high school girls into young productive women.
What is a Rite of Passage?
Rites of passage in adolescence are a cross-cultural phenomenon. They have existed throughout human history and may be a significant factor in the development of a stable adult personality. broken down into its most basic elements, a rite of passage involves:

1. A separation from society

Attending bi-weekly meetings

Participated in scheduled retreats
2. Instruction from an elder

The myriad of workshops presented cover life skill training, personal development, ancestral history, public speaking, goal setting and financial preparedness.

3. A transition (in the case of adolescence, from child to adult)

This mentoring program concentrates on girls in their transition into womanhood, fostering responsibility, miserliness, pride accountability from all participants.

During the program participants engage in community service, two (2) retreats, attend an etiquette dinner and learn traditional African dance.

4. A welcoming back into society with acknowledgment of adolescent's changed status.

The format of the ceremony, involving family and community will visibly show the maturation of participants' transformation, prayers and blessings, traditional food, dance and dress, and inspirational music and songs.
